Tenants for a Great Season

  1. Show Up Ready: Be ready to swim when showing up at practice or meets
  2. Be Respectful: be respectful of all coaches, teammates, opposing teams and volunteers.
  3. Listen: When the coach is giving instruction, watch and actively listen to them.
  4. Let us Know: If you are uncomfortable with something whether small or large let us know.
  5. Parents Off Deck: Please remain in the spectator area. Being "On-Deck" (behind the diving platforms) is a distraction to the instruction and the lifeguards.

Swimmer Code of Conduct

A primary goal of LJST is to provide a fun, safe, and positive environment where our members can learn the joys of competitive swimming. For that reason, we have adopted this Code of Conduct for all LJST swimmers:

LJST Swimmer Code of Conduct

  • I will treat all coaches with respect.
  • I will not yell at or argue with my coaches.
  • I will follow all coach instructions.
  • I will not behave negatively at practices or meets toward my coaches, teammates, or myself.
  • I will keep my hands to myself and will not hit, push, shove underwater, or inappropriately touch another swimmer.
  • I will not behave in any unsafe manner while in the pool or on the pool deck.
  • I will be respectful at meets to all officials, volunteers, and opposing parents to help create a positive and enjoyable experience.
  • I will demonstrate good sportsmanship and positive support for all swimmers at every meet, practice, or other LJST event, regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
  • I will never use profanity at any swim event. I will not use drugs, tobacco, or alcohol at any swim event.

I hereby pledge to follow this LJST Swimmer Code of Conduct.

Violations of the Swimmer Code of Conduct may result in, but are not limited to:

  • Warning: Swimmer may be asked to spend time out of the pool sitting on a bench and/or a discussion may be held with the swimmer’s parent(s) or guardian(s). Multiple warnings will lead to suspension or expulsion.
  • Suspension: Swimmer may be asked to leave that practice and not return for 1 day to 1 week. If violations continue after suspension, additional suspensions may follow. Continued violations may result in expulsion.
  • Expulsion: Swimmer will be asked not to return to the team.

All suspension and expulsion decisions will be made by the LJST Head Coach and Board President.

Parental Code of Conduct

A primary goal of LJST is to provide a fun, safe, and positive environment where our members can learn the joys of competitive swimming. We understand that no one has a greater influence on this goal than the parents of our swimmers. For that reason, we have adopted the following Code of Conduct for all LJST swim parents.

LJST Parental Code of Conduct

  • I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child participating with LJST Swim by following this Parental Code of Conduct.
  • I will not force my child to participate in swimming.
  • I will behave respectfully at all meets and treat officials, opposing parents, coaches, and swimmers with courtesy.
  • I will learn the rules of the sport.
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all swimmers, coaches, and officials at every meet, practice, or other LJST event.
  • I will never use profanity at a swim event.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • I will insist that my child competes in a safe and healthy environment.
  • I will support coaches, officials, and volunteers working with my child in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
  • I understand that, as a parent of an LJST swimmer, I represent the team and will do my best to do so in a positive manner.
  • I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all swim events.
  • I will do my best to make swimming fun for my child.
  • I will ask my child to treat other swimmers, coaches, fans, and officials with respect, regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
  • I promise to help my child enjoy the youth sports experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectful fan, assisting with team needs, or providing transportation.
  • I will not be “on-deck” (on either side of the practice swim lanes) during practice, as I do not want to distract from instruction. If I watch swim practice, I will remain in the bleachers for the entire session.
  • If I have questions or concerns, I will email the team at [email protected]. Speaking with coaches before, during, or after practice distracts swimmers and delays instruction. I will use the team email for communication and will not call coaches on their personal phones.

Violations of the Parental Code of Conduct may result in, but are not limited to:

  • Warning
  • Suspension
  • Expulsion

All suspension and expulsion decisions will be made by the LJST Executive Board. Three warnings may result in review for suspension or expulsion.

If a parent has any issues with a student coach or volunteer of LJST, or with any of our associated organizations (CCAA, TAAF, etc.), concerns should be brought to a member of the LJST Board for resolution.
